Saturday Classes

The Meraki Artists of Tomorrow

Our Saturday classes will help your child to develop their artistic skills under professional guidance, and will provide an outlet for their creativity to blossom. Held in the beautiful art studio at Exeter Community Centre they’re run by qualified teachers and passionate artists. There will be ongoing opportunities for the groups to take part in local exhibitions, community projects and both national and international competitions should they wish to. Our art classes encourage young people to feel proud of their achievements and provide ample opportunity to come together to celebrate the artworks that they create.

The Glorious Art House Exhibition

Young people joining Meraki in September can look forward to exhibiting their work at ‘The Glorious Art House’ in November! Parents are invited to pop in to this vibrant, lively café and creative centre to celebrate their child/ren’s achievements and to enjoy something yummy from 8th – 14th November.

Our Saturday Art Classes

We currently run two Saturday morning classes that are ‘term time only‘. Our classes are on a first come-first serve basis, but when you register you secure your place in a rolling subscription so you don’t lose your place. This enables us to structure our sessions so that we can work on ongoing projects and continue to build on specific skills throughout the series. It also allows sufficient time for pupils to get to know one another and form friendships

See our terms and conditions for more information.

The Artist-Teachers

The welfare of the children is our paramount concern; all our Artist-Teachers have extensive experience in working with young people and have undergone advanced DBS checks, child protection training and first aid certification. Parents do not stay for the sessions so why not drop your little one off and take a wander into our beautiful city? You can do a spot of shopping, or take an hour just for YOU, to enjoy a nice latte or a stroll by the Quay, either way you can relax knowing that your child is in capable hands, being creative and having fun!

FAQs – Your questions answered

My child is on the cusp of an age bracket, is there any lee-way as to which class they attend?
The above ages brackets are meant as guidelines, should your child sit on the cusp we would be more than happy to have a conversation and make suggestions as to which session we feel they would be best suited to.
Can I stay and watch the activity?
Generally, we are unable to accommodate parents staying due to the venue size but should you have a specific reason for wanting to stay please get in touch and we’ll see what we can arrange. All our teachers have extensive experience in working with young people and have advanced DBS checks, child protection training and first aid certification –  so your child is in very safe hands!
Ideally I don’t want to have to pay for parking, do you do a drop-off and pick-up service from outside the centre?
We know parking charges can be a pain, especially if you have no other business in Exeter, so yes we would be happy to collect your child from outside the centre if you park up briefly outside. However, we do ask that you get in touch to arrange this in advance to ensure that we’re expecting you.
What if I pick my child up late?
There is a charge for late pick up – please see our late collection policy for details
Who can pick up my child?
Your child’s safety is our primary concern. We will only let a child leave with another adult (other than a named contact we already have) if it has been agreed with us prior to the class. If you want your child to leave on their own after a session we need your consent first.
What sort of clothes are appropriate for the classes?
Some classes are messier than others and whilst we do provide aprons we advise that all pupils wear old clothes that they wouldn’t mind getting a bit grubby.
Is there a way I can keep up to date with what my child is getting up to in the class?
After every class we try to post an album of photographs up to our Facebook page to share the highlights from the session, and as a way of further celebrating the lovely work that the children create. Of course we will only post pictures where we have your consent.
I can’t make a class but I’ve paid for it?
Once you have agreed and paid for your art classes we are unable to offer this space to another child, therefore we do not issue refunds for classes you are unable to attend. We have more details about this in our T&C’s.
